Founded in 1992 shortly before the riots erupted, The Koreatown Immigrant Workers Alliance (KIWA), is a grassroots community organization representing the rights of multi-ethnic workers and residents of Koreatown. Here, Jang Woo Karl Nam-a former organizer at KIWA-describes its origins and the various initiatives and motivations surrounding the organization’s efforts to create ethnic solidarity in Los Angeles’s Koreatown community.
